Oct 25

Today, we finished up our assignment given and (most groups) presented each of our contribution of our role analyzing Antijos  by Julia Alvarez. I learned a couple things, including more insight of what it's like in other, less affluent countries, in aspects of general living as well as how a woman feels being alone in a place like this. I also learned what "hullabaloo" meant through context in the story. The amount of caution women always have to exercise when alone and the nervousness that comes in a situation where they do end up alone is what impacted me. With this knowledge I plan to exercise my insight on the topic and have sympathy toward situations like this. What I liked about the lesson was that we got an insight into the way a different country works and how different 3rd-world countries are compared to America. Of course we all knew of this to an extent, but it is a good reminder of how different America is compared to other countries. What I struggled with w...

Today, we read The Myth of The Latin Woman  and listened to a Ted talk about being a Hispanic/Latinx means in the United States. We wrote down interesting things, misconceptions, and questions pertaining to the text and video. We also looked at a new extra credit assignment. I learned a lot about Latinx and Hispanic people/cultures. What impacted me was how many misconceptions there are about these groups that aren't even easy to realize without seeing examples of them being revealed. With this knowledge, I plan to better identify and keep myself from generalizing people of Latinx background. What I liked about the lesson was that this information is very valuable for communicating properly in our social lives. This lesson was mostly writing in pencil, and I really prefer typing, but this hasn't ever kept me from doing my work as well as I could. Today, I am feeling great. I have been quite productive already and I can feel a difference from going to sleep an hour earlier las...

I was absent on Tuesday, October 17.

Oct 16

Today, we went over some presentations for the Latin-American country assignment.  I learned about some Latin-American countries. What impacted me were the fun facts about each country. With this knowledge, I plan to come up with good fun facts for my own presentation. I liked that because I saw some presentations, I now have a good concept of what my presentation should look like. I think this will be very useful.  Today, I am feeling quite stressed because of the large amount work I missed and now need to make up, but nonetheless very happy and uplifted. I thank the Lord for this. Today would have sucked without relying on Him to get me through it.

Oct 10-13 (absent)

I was absent the whole past week from Tuesday, October 10 through Friday, October 13 because I was sick. I will turn in an excuse for absence tomorrow. Sorry for not posting my absences as the week went by.

October 4

Today (its 12 AM, so technically yesterday) we finally typed the Fences  analysis essay that has been in the back of every multicultural literature student's mind for the past week and a half. I got to school right around 8:30 and go into Mr. Rease's classroom at about 8:35, so I only had about an hour to get my organized and written down thoughts from the day before onto my screen and submitted. Thank the Lord that all of the books were already taken up because I could only use the PDF of Fences  that I had previously downloaded on my chromebook. I'm assuming this isn't cheating... but I used ctrl+f to find parts of the play that I needed to reference throughout my essay which would have been impossible if I was using a paper book. (obviously) Returning to the blog post format, I learned that I should prioritize getting to school on time. I barely finished my essay and my third body paragraph felt quite weak and short.  What I liked about this lesson was that I got...

October 3

On Tuesday we went through a preparation sheet/thoughts and ideas organizer for the essay we typed on Wednesday. I learned more about how my essay should look but more importantly what it will be about. It impacted me because I could already tell how much this outline would help us when the time to type the essay came around. (I'm creating this post after, and indeed it did) I liked that we had another day of solid essay preparation before the time came to speed-run it in one class period. I didn't get too much done on it in class but I'm glad I filled it out more at home later that day. It really helped when I was writing the essay.

October 2

On Monday we started brainstorming ideas for the Fences  analysis essay that we typed on Wednesday. I learned more about what will be required from us when we type the essay. It impacted me by giving me a much clearer idea of the structure that we will be trying to follow when we type the essays up. This knowledge helped me do better when the time to write the essay came around. I am creating this post two days later, so the only thing I can remember liking about the lesson (looking back on it now in a general aspect) is how much preparation Mr. Rease gave us during the two days right before the day of typing the essay up.
