Dec 8 + calling on the Lord

Today, we caught up on missing work. I didn't learn much during the class because there wasn't a lesson, (I got there late so I can't be sure) but after class I learned from Mr. Rease that a coach of a certain sports team led half of his team to be baptized and the coach received some sort of demotion because of it. This impacted me because: yes, there is separation between church and state, but the coach likely didn't force those kids to get in the water and be baptized. For one, if that happened, the headline of the story would be different. Two, it wouldn't be a genuine baptism if the players on the team didn't choose for themselves to believe into the Lord Jesus and be baptized into His death and resurrection. This makes the whole demotion part of the story unsettling to me, but when compared to the extent of persecution that is soon to come for Christians, this type of treatment is very minor. With this knowledge, I plan to look into this story and read it...

Today, we took an assessment on a segment of "The Yellow Wallpaper." I did not do very well on it.  I learned how to better take a reading comprehension assessment. I was misled on a couple of questions and I thought I had a pretty solid case to plead when I found out they were wrong, but Mr. Rease's explanations helped me realize I just need to really get into the details and trust the process of elimination on each question. It impacted me because I thought I had done pretty well on it, but I think I got a 60% or below. With the knowledge I obtained, I plan to do much better on the next reading comprehension assessment that I take. I liked that it wasn't a very work-filled day. The assessment was only 10 questions long, which is both a blessing and a curse. It's probably more of a curse than a blessing because that means each question I get wrong brings my score down an entire letter grade, which is what I disliked about the assessment. I feel like even a 15-que...

Today, we read through "The Yellow Wallpaper" again and wrote down what confused us as well as six questions about the text and their answers. I learned more about the text by jumping around and coming up with questions about it. Because we had to give the answer too, I had to look deeper into the text to find things that could be good questions, of which the answers are easily found in the text. I was impacted by how many details I got from doing this that I hadn't picked up by just reading the text through. With this knowledge, I plan to do better on an assessment about this text. What I liked about the lesson, more so this reading over the last couple of days, was that it doesn't feel like we're rushing this story or trying to get through it too fast. I also feel like the questions we created are going to be in the assessment, or at least the ones that Mr. Rease deems as usable. There wasn't much to dislike about the lesson. Mr. Rease let me turn my questi...

I was absent on Monday, December 4.

Today, we answered questions about the text that we apparently had read on Wednesday. I didn't get too far into the story, but it is pretty interesting so far. I learned about the story but only the first two pages. The way that the story is written impacted me, the mood is interesting. I liked reading the story and answering some questions, as well as how clear the questions are and how easy it is to answer them just by keeping the next one in mind while I'm reading. There wasn't really anything to dislike about today's lesson. Today, I am feeling good. My mom found out she didn't have to work today, so she took me to school from my parking spot down the street. I'm very glad this happened because I would have been freezing in the rain if I had to walk up from where I park.
